Antonietta Collins

Antonietta Toni Gonzalez-Collins is an Mexican American broadcaster. She is currently a sportscaster for ESPN who is also anchor of SportsCenter reports and hosts SportsNation. Her first assignment with ESPN in the year 2016. The child of TV journalist Maria Antonieta Collins. Antonietta is bilingual since age nine. Her skill was instrumental in her landing her first job as a producer assistant at Univision Miami, where she assisted the production of programs like Nuestra Belleza Latina and Premios Lo Nuestro Premios Juventud. She was hired as a reporter for the CBS St. Petersburg affiliate following that. She moved in Rio Grande Valley in 2009 in order to join the team of reporters at the Spanish channels KNVO TV 48 Univision, as well as Fox2 News. Reporters covered issues related to immigration and drug trafficking across both Texas and Mexico. Also, she was a substitute for weather and sports anchors. She was then the anchor and reporter on Univision Dallas' Deportes 23. She was then given more responsibility. The pieces she produced were on MLB's ALDS ALCS and World Series the Dallas Cowboys the NBA postseason and the NBA Finals FC Dallas and the Dallas Stars. Additionally, she was the producer of Univision 23's local sports channel Accion Deportiva Extra, on which she served as anchor. Then, she became the sports host for the morning program of Despierta America Deportes. The anchor also worked in a similar role for the magazine show Primer Impacto and for UniMas Network's Contacto Deportivo. Antonietta Collins was a native of Veracruz, Mexico. The family moved towards Mexico City, where Antonietta Collins was born on November 1985. Her older sister is also hers. In 1992 the family left Mexico in search of the US and relocated to Miami. Their divorce was soon followed and in 1995 her mother was remarried to an architect from the naval profession named Fabio Fajardo who died from kidney cancer in the year 2006. She stayed at Canton Ohio with her older sister in the summertime, which was the time she received an opportunity to work. A senior in high school and yet having an idea of the direction she was going to take for her life, Antonietta went to The University of Mount Union to assess if it suited her needs. It was discovered that she enjoyed the university as well as the fact that it offered the major she wanted. She finished school and enrolled at the college with a major in media studies. Mark Bergmann was her professor and also the head of WRMU where she's a participant. They had a very close relationship. He encouraged her to be self-confident and his passion for journalism was deeply affecting her and she in turn, strived to live up to his standards and never let him down.
